My name is Caroline O'Leary and I am 12 years old. I found out about CAIPRS, when my father and sister told me about a sign they had seen outside Sturgis library. It said, "Haunted Tour- 8:00." I went and loved it, but it didn't scare me. I went a second time, and Derek Bartlett, Founder of Cape And Islands Paranormal Research Society (CAIPRS) and tour guide along with Joanne McCann, Field Investigator for CAIPRS suggested I should become a researcher for the team. I accepted. I am writing this article to answer questions you might have.
I have been interested in ghosts for 8 years. When I was 4, I saw "Casper the Friendly Ghost". I thought that ghosts were cool, and started learning about them. I read tons of books on them over the years, whenever I got the chance. One of the first ghost stories I remember is a story about a house we stayed in on vacation. It was about a person who had died in the house, and they say that at midnight, it come and eats little children. I was petrified!
Most of my friends believe in ghosts. Especially my friend Palace. We always read books on ghosts, and ESP, and haunted places. My family is not so sure that ghosts exist. They do say that you should never dismiss the thought of ghosts though. My mother says, "You should never write off ghosts. The strangest thing happen when you least expect them to."
Have I ever had an experience with ghosts? The answer is, yes, actually. At an intense sports camp I went to in Canada last summer. One story at camp was about a little girl’s who had died when she fell off of her tree-house. On day, while on my morning run, I saw a sad little girl. She was white, and glowing. She disappeared, and, a little nervously, I returned to my run. 5 minutes later, I saw a bear! I scared it away, but I believe that the little girl was warning me. Countless times, I have seen things out of the corner of my eye, and heard footsteps in empty places, and felt like I was being watched, too.
Some people ask, do you believe in ghosts? Absolutely! There have been too many mysterious happenings for there not to be! I believe ghosts are everywhere, watching us.
*All the people I mentioned have given me permission to be put in the story.
